This collection of homilies covers the Sundays and various feasts of the “B” Cycle year are helpful for those who lead the liturgy as well as those who want to participate more fully in it. Each homily concludes with two sets of questions—one for the private reader or discussion group, and one for the preacher with suggestions on “other directions for preaching.”

I could understand God being tempted to do a replay of the Noah story. But “Noah found favor with the LORD” (Gen 6:8), we are told in the story. Noah was upright, living a good life in God’s sight. Noah believed God, who told him to build an ark, and trusted God’s word. Noah built that ark and then came forty days of rain. The chaos humans had created was destroyed by the chaos of the flood.
